Melodramatic? Absolutely not. I would say it is highly emotive, but not over the top. Personally, I think if a piece elicits and emotional response, it is successful. Viewers should react to artwork. This speaks to me. I think this is beautiful. The contrast is very effective and I love the subtle greens in the deer. They play very well off the red flower. Nicely done.
